Learning Aotearoa, with care
This platform is designed to help people prepare for the New Zealand Citizenship Test using educational resources inspired by New Zealand values, civic understanding, and publicly available syllabus-related topics.
Our purpose
Our mission is to make preparing for the New Zealand citizenship process feel calm, clear, and welcoming — not stressful. Every part of this platform is built to support learners as they take an important step toward joining the wider Aotearoa community.
We focus on helping you understand the ideas behind the questions: how the country is governed, what shared values bind it together, and how Māori heritage and the wider community have shaped modern New Zealand. The goal is not just to pass a test, but to feel genuinely at home in the country you have chosen.
An independent, learner-first study platform
This learning platform is independently developed to support learners preparing for the citizenship process in New Zealand, including understanding New Zealand culture, society, history, democratic principles, and Māori values.
Many learners juggle work, family, and study at the same time. Official material can be dense, scattered across different sources, or hard to follow as a second-language reader. We built a single, calm space where the most important ideas are explained simply, practised gently, and revisited as often as you need.
This website focuses on educational support and practice preparation in an easy-to-understand format. It is not a government service, and it does not issue citizenship decisions — those remain with the official authorities of New Zealand.
Built around shared values
New Zealand is a country of many cultures, many languages, and many stories. The values below shape the way we present every lesson, question, and explanation — so that every learner feels seen and respected.
Respect & Inclusiveness
New Zealand is built on respect for every person, regardless of background, culture, faith, or first language. Our materials reflect that spirit.
Democracy & Fairness
Civic understanding starts with the principles that shape Aotearoa: free elections, the rule of law, and equal treatment under it.
Kaitiakitanga
Care for the land, for one another, and for future generations is a thread that runs through New Zealand life and learning.
Community & Manaakitanga
Hospitality, kindness, and looking out for neighbours are at the heart of how Kiwis welcome new members of the community.
Honouring tangata whenua
Māori are the tangata whenua — the people of the land — and their culture, language, and history are an essential part of Aotearoa New Zealand. Across this platform we use Māori words and concepts with care, and we encourage learners to do the same.
Where we reference Māori concepts such as Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, or whanaungatanga, we draw on publicly available educational sources and aim to explain them respectfully and in plain language. We do not claim to speak for iwi, hapū, or whānau, and we welcome corrections from the community.
Learning about Māori history and values is not a checkbox for the test — it is part of becoming a thoughtful member of the wider Aotearoa community.
Designed for every learner
Studying for citizenship should never be limited by language, device, or ability. The platform is built with accessibility and multilingual support in mind from day one.
